Faruk Tuna
Wind Energy & Atmospheric Measurement Expert · İzmir, TR
Faruk Tuna is a wind energy expert with a Ph.D. in Engineering from Izmir Institute of Technology (2018–2022), where he worked in the Energy Systems Engineering department under Assoc. Prof. Ferhat Bingöl.
His research corrects a common blind spot in wind resource assessment: vertical wind profiles are usually modeled assuming neutral atmospheric conditions, which introduces significant error in yield forecasts and extreme/turbulence load calculations whenever the atmosphere is actually stable or unstable. His work, published at the İzmir Wind Symposium and built on National Wind Technology Center mast data, quantifies that error by comparing stability analyses from standard cup anemometry against sonic anemometer measurements — and shows how to fold stability parameters into the model instead of assuming them away.
Expertise
- Wind Resource Assessment — vertical wind speed profiles, met mast measurement campaigns, yield forecasting
- Atmospheric Stability Analysis — Monin-Obukhov similarity theory, Obukhov length estimation, stable/unstable/neutral classification
- Measurement Uncertainty — cup vs. sonic anemometry comparison, quantifying bias from instrument choice in non-neutral conditions
- Energy Systems Engineering — turbulence and extreme-wind-speed calculations for wind energy feasibility studies
